Why did you chose to study at Harlaxton?
Harlaxton was a big reason why I came to UE. For me it wasn't a question of if I would study abroad, it was when could I fit it into my academic schedule. I knew that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I couldn't pass it up.
Did you have a life-changing experience during your time at Harlaxton?
I would honestly say Harlaxton as a whole is a life-changing experience. There are so many moments that I look back on and think, "Wow, I can't believe I lived that." One of my favorite memories has to be watching the sun set over the manor on the last night before everyone left for America.
Harlaxton also showed me that I can handle anything life throws at me. I was with two friends in the London airport waiting on our flight to Athens when a horrible storm hit. Our flight got delayed for hours, so we ended up spending the night in the airport and going more than 24 hours without sleep in Greece! It could have ruined our weekend, but looking back it's easily one of my favorite trips because of all the great stories that came from it.
Based on your experience, what makes the Harlaxton program unique?
I believe Harlaxton is unique because of the freedom that comes with it. Having Fridays off to travel on weekends is amazing. Harlaxton does offer pre-planned school trips, but you don't have to participate in them. I would say most students focus on independently planned travel with a small group. This opens up the opportunity to go anywhere in the world on any given weekend. There are no limits in Harlaxton. If you dream of going somewhere, just go.
How has the manor become your second home?
The people that you meet at the manor become your second family, and home is where your family is. It is such a unique experience, and everyone at Harlaxton understands what you're going through in ways other people couldn't comprehend. Between the time difference from home, general homesickness, and adjusting to life abroad, everyone learns to lean on each other at Harlaxton.
What advice do you have for any future Harlaxton students?
The best advice I can give to future Harlaxton students is to be present. Your time at Harlaxton will fly by faster than you ever thought possible. Try new foods, do something you never thought you could, try to challenge yourself! You will probably never get an opportunity like this again, so do your best to embrace every second of it.
