When did you attend Harlaxton?

I attended in Spring 2010.

Did you have any unique experiences during your time at Harlaxton?

One of my favorite experiences was a weekend trip to Belgium with three friends. We didn't know a lot about Belgian history or have much in particular to see, so it was very relaxed. We ate good food – Belgian waffles, beer, fries and mussels, stayed at a neat bed and breakfast, took a tour on the canal in Bruges, saw store windows full of unique chocolate sculptures and animals in preparation for Easter, and really explored whatever looked interesting. It was a great “slow” moment in a semester of sightseeing, sightseeing, sightseeing!

Does Harlaxton still feel like a second home? Have you returned since studying abroad?

I would love to return to Harlaxton! It would be so neat to revisit the place that had such a profound impact on me.

Do you have a favorite trip from your time at Harlaxton?

It is so difficult to choose a favorite trip! I definitely fell in love with Paris during the long weekend trip. The architecture, the food, the history, the art, just the feeling of the city – I really connected with it. I have since went back to visit the city again, see some of the French countryside, and visit Normandy with one of my good friends from Harlaxton.

Did your time at Harlaxton have any influence on your future? Was it a life-changing experience?

Growing up I always knew I wanted to travel, and I had the time of my life while studying at Harlaxton. It truly was a life transforming experience – seeing the places I had read about in history books, deepening friendships, becoming more confident in myself, and experiencing a change in perspective. After studying at Harlaxton, I studied for a semester in Barcelona, returned to France with my best friend who also went to Harlaxton, and am planning to return to Europe soon. My love for travel and experiencing different cultures came alive at Harlaxton and continues to grow. I am very grateful for the experience.
