What was your favorite thing about studying at Harlaxton?

Staying on the grounds at the manor and getting to know everyone. On my last night at the manor before taking the bus to fly home, I was allowed to help cook in the kitchen. We made pancakes, waffles, and bacon. We talked and laughed with everyone at Harlaxton. The manor was beautifully decorated for the holiday season. It was a great last memory to wrap up my experience studying abroad.

Did you take program-specific classes at Harlaxton, and what was unique about them?

While at Harlaxton, I took Intro to Marketing, Intro to Managerial Accounting, and Contemporary European Business. These were all part of my degree requirements, but they were truly unique. While taking my accounting course, we had the manor accountant come in and discuss how the manor operates. From there, our class created a ChangeLab that sought ways to allocate the manor’s costs and reduce them. Additionally, my European Business course incorporated class discussion on Mondays that involved what we observed during our recent travels and how they compared to operations back home.

What piece of advice would you give to someone planning to study at Harlaxton?

I would recommend that you invest some time upfront to plan what you wish to see while abroad. Make sure you accomplish that during your time there.

Why do you recommend studying abroad?

I recommend studying abroad because of the great people to meet, the amazing places to see, and the incredible opportunities that await out there for you to take advantage of.

How has the manor become your second home? Do you plan to return someday?

It became a lovely place where I got to meet so many faculty and staff, and the students there were so welcoming. I do plan to return someday. It might just be for a visit, but maybe it could be another study abroad experience. There are classes over there in coming semesters that would allow me to study again.

Do you have a favorite trip from your time spent abroad?

Yes! I went on a weeklong fall break trip to Scotland with the school group. We made stops all over Scotland, including Edinburgh, Galway, and even up to Inverness to see Nessie. I had a great time hopping train to train and touring such historical places.
